LADIES WHO LIFT: MYTHS
“I DON’T LIFT WEIGHTS BECAUSE I DON’T WANT TO GET BIG AND BULKY!”
Myth: It is not possible for women to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger simply by lifting weights. Testosterone is responsible for making serious muscle gain and women simply don’t have enough of it. Still not convinced? Ok then consider this, how many Men do you see at the gym who regularly lift weights and still don’t seem any bigger? And they have loads more testosterone than women! In order for a lady to gain Schwarzenegger style proportions they would have to be taking growth hormones and steroids, which we certainly do not promote here at Femmunition.
“IF I STOP LIFTING WEIGHTS MY MUSCLE WILL TURN INTO FAT”
Myth: Muscle and fat are two completely different things and it’s impossible for one to turn into the other. It is true that if you stop lifting weights for a long period of time you will experience muscle loss and definition but it won’t turn to fat. The truth is that when most people stop lifting weights and training it usually goes hand in hand with taking up poor eating habits again hence the body fat increase.
“I DON’T NEED TO LIFT WEIGHTS AS I DO CARDIO”
Myth: It depends what results you are looking to see from your training regime. If you want a lithe and skinny physique then plenty of cardio will help you. However if you want a toned figure with all the right curves in all the right places like the lady above then lifting weights is for you! You will see that we do promote the use of Cardio as part of your training regime as it will help nudge fat loss in the right direction.
“IF I LIFT WEIGHTS AND VISIT THE GYM REGULARLY I CAN EAT WHAT I WANT”
Myth: As demonstrated in our Femmunition Pyramid (hyperlink to Pyramid please) diet is the most important component when wanting to drop body fat and tone up. If you don’t follow a healthy eating plan you will not get the results you want! Just because you have to eat healthy does not mean that you cannot have tasty and delicious food, some examples can be found here (hyperlink to recipes here please).
That is not to say that you can’t enjoy a “cheat meal” on a Friday or Saturday night, life is for living right!
“LIFTING WEIGHTS WILL NOT HELP ME LOSE BODY FAT, I CAN ONLY DO THIS THROUGH INTENSIVE CARDIO SESSION”
Myth: Studies have shown that the human body will continue to burn fat for up to 36 hours after you have finished working out. The same effect cannot be achieved by cardio unless you are taking part in very intense and prolonged sessions.
In addition, as you build lean muscle mass your body will become more efficient at burning fat.
